The Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources Management (FMRM) is reminding the public that the 2022-2023 crawfish (lobster) season will be closed as of Friday, March 31st, 2023.
The Fisheries Protection Ordinance Regulations 12(1) states: “The close season in relation to crawfish shall be the period from the first day of April to the thirty-first day of July (inclusive) in each year or such other dates as may, from time to time, be appointed by the Governor in the Gazette.”
During the closed season, any person who fishes for, purchases or is in possession of lobster will be committing an offence that is punishable by fine of $5,000 or six-months imprisonment or both. The FMRM is urging all fishers, restaurant owners, private residents and plant owners to ensure that no lobster remains in their possession as of Saturday, April 1st, 2023 to July 31, 2023.
In the meantime, Government is reminding the public to report any allege or suspected contravention of the Fisheries Protection Ordinance Regulations to the FMRM in 338-4179.
