Man Beheaded In Five Cays

The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force are investigating the circumstances that led to the nocturnal discovery of a headless body in the community of Five Cays, Providenciales today.

Police, who later found the missing head, identified the body as that of Desmond Arthur 48, otherwise called ‘Pie’ and ‘Gomer’ of Five Cays.

Denyse Renne, the Media Relations Officer for the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, said based on preliminary information, a call was placed to the Police Control Room at around 1:24 a.m. that the lifeless body of a male was spotted at a location in Five Cays.

Renne said when officers arrived, they saw the decapitated body of a man. She said a few hours later, at around 7:45 a.m., officers received further information that what might have been the head of the decapitated body was seen in an area of the community called ‘Club Med’. And after visiting the area, confirmed that the head belonged to the victim.

“The RTCIPF can confirm the body is that of Desmond Arthur, 48, aka ‘Pie’ and ‘Gomer’ resided in Five Cays and was last seen around 11 p.m. yesterday - Tuesday 04th July,” Renne said in a statement.

“Specialist trained officers of the RTCIPF are supporting his family through this traumatic loss,” Renne continued.

In the meantime, Head of Crime, Safeguarding and Public Protection Superintendent Dean Holden, responding to the horrific murder, said even though at this time the police could not establish a motive, they were working feverishly to not only establish one, but also to nab those responsible.

“Whilst we have no definitive motive at this time, we remain open minded. However, a key line of enquiry is whether this could have been some form of retribution as a result of the victim's apparent involvement in local crime,” Holden said, while chiding members of the local community for disgustingly circulating on media the body of the victim

.

“We are also aware of apparent footage on social media of the victim’s body. The circulation of such imagery is appalling and demonstrates a complete lack of respect for the victim's family and friends. I am urging people not to view, share, or continue to post any material of this nature.
