NHIP APPEAL TRIBUNAL GETS TRAINING BY JUDICIAL EDUCATION INSTITUTE OF TCI

The full panel of the newly appointed National Health Insurance Appeal Tribunal received training from the Judicial Education Institute of TCI, held on Friday 28 July 2023, under the distinguished patronage of Chief Justice Her Ladyship Mabel Agyemang.


The Training was specifically designed for the National Health Insurance Appeal Tribunal and arranged by Her Ladyship Chief Justice Mabel Agyemang at the request of Chairman Mark A Fulford. The training commenced with opening remarks and introduction of the Training Facilitator by Ms. Tanya Carter, Executive Director, Office of the Chief Justice and was closed by special thanks and remarks brought by the Secretary of the JEI Mr. Antonio Emmanuel.

The training was facilitated by The Honourable Madam Justice S. Maureen Crane-Scott under the theme, “Providing Skills For Adjudication And Determination Of Appeals”. The training session was an interactive one where members of the panel engaged in a question-and-answer session with The Honourable Madam Justice S. Maureen Crane-Scott who is a resident Justice of the Court of Appeal of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas since 1st May, 2015.


Commenting on the Training Provided, Honourable Chief Justice Agyemang stated that: “It was a welcomed request by the Tribunal Chairman for the JEI to design a specific course geared towards training its members in understanding the skills necessary for adjudication and determination of Appeals. The Judicial Education Institute of the Turks and Caicos Islands is pleased to offer this training to provide access to justice everywhere in the islands.”


Commenting on the Training Provided, Chairman of the Tribunal Mark A Fulford, stated: “special thanks to Honourable Chief Justice Agyemang for answering the call and arranging for the training of the members of the NHI Appeals Tribunal. We take our work very seriously and I wanted to ensure that my members and I are armed with the right skills for determination of appeals, given that most health matters are always a matter of life and death decisions. Our Facilitator of the training was indeed knowledgeable, useful and practical and we thank Honourable Madam Justice S. Maureen Crane-Scott of the Bahamian Court of Appeal for taking the time to conduct this training.”

The Appeal Tribunal comprises of Chairman Mark A Fulford, a leading Attorney and Managing Partner of F Chambers Law firm; Bishop Coleta A. Williams III, Bishop of the Abundant Life Ministries church; and Mrs. Jena Janse, a Real Estate professional. The Appeal Tribunal have been appointed for a period of two years with effect from 1 July 2023 to 31 March 2025.
