'Police Shooting' Social Media Post Inaccurate

Inaccurate, irresponsible, and unsubstantiated…that is how the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force is describing a social media post about a police shooting in Dock Yard, Providenciales, which is making rounds on various platforms.

The post included text and video of spent shell, purported to be that fired by members of a police part, at fleeing persons.

However, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) has vehemently denied the post.

“The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force is aware of a WhatsApp message stating that police officers were involved in an incident this morning (November 23rd) in Dock Yard. Officers of the RT&CIPF were not involved in ANY exchange of gunfire. This news is inaccurate, irresponsible, and unsubstantiated,” the post stated.

Commissioner of Police Rodney Adams, in respond to the post, stating that it was a deliberate attempt to destabilize the work of the police force.

“In light of this, Acting Commissioner of Police Mr. Rodney Adams asks the public to desist from circulating information that seeks to undermine the police force. Mr Adams is asking the public to please use their discretion before posting or sharing any news on public platforms, which could only seek to create mistrust in our officers dedicated to protecting the Turks and Caicos Islands. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter,” a media release from the RTCIPF said.

“The public is being asked to contact 911, the closest police station, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 and anonymously give any information on any illegal activities,” the release added.
