Premier Hon. Washington Misick's National Address As Fiona Approaches

A Message from the Premier on Hurricane Fiona Following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Governor His Excellency Nigel Dakin and I have accepted the invitation to travel to London, United Kingdom to attend Her Majesty’s funeral and to pay respects on behalf of the Turks and Caicos Islands Government and people.

Unfortunately, during our travel it was announced that Tropical Storm Fiona would possibly pose a threat to the Turks and Caicos Islands. Since then, Tropical Storm Fiona has been upgraded to a hurricane with some impact imminent for the eastern Islands of the TCI.

I applaud the excellent work of the Acting Governor Her Excellency Anya Williams and Acting Premier, Honourable Erwin Jay Saunders, the minister and Ministry of Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development (PPID), other ministerial colleagues and ministries, DDME, TCI Airports Authority and the entire National Emergency Operations team for your efforts to prepare the Turks and Caicos Islands for this season and for this impending hurricane.

Turks and Caicos Islands, I urge you to heed the advice and warnings given by the Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies and implore you to carry out all necessary preparations to protect your families and your property.

Storms are unpredictable and although the latest track shows that TCI may not face a direct impact, the direction of the storm could change and conditions may worsen. You must therefore take every precaution to ensure your safety. Know that His Excellency and I are engaged in critically important meetings with UK government officials on behalf of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

We will continue to monitor Hurricane Fiona from the UK and we look forward on returning home on Thursday,22nd September 2022. I pray for your safety and that the storm will pass swiftly and without loss of life or damage to our Islands or property. May God bless and protect you al
