Mrs Gessie Herilien, a recipient of the prestigious Chevening Scholarship for the academic year 2022/23, bids farewell as she concludes her transformative educational journey in the UK.
She is set to return to her home country, Turks and Caicos, in the coming weeks, equipped with valuable knowledge and experiences gained during her time as a Chevening Scholar.
Throughout her time as a Chevening Scholar, Gessie has exemplified academic excellence, dedication, and a commitment to making a positive impact in her community.
She is studying her LLM – Master of Law in Financial Technology and Regulation at University of East London where she has gain extensible knowledge on finance products and services such as mobile payments, crowdfunding, crypto assets, private digital currencies, stable coins, and decentralised finance.
She has collaborated with fellow scholars and interacted with renowned faculty members. Her dissertation is focused on “digital transformation and researching how the TCI can become a Prominent Fintech leader in the FinTech industry.”
Upon her return to Turks and Caicos, she aims to apply her newfound knowledge and skills to address pressing challenges facing her country and contribute to a more transformative financial services through the use of technology.
She plans to collaborate with local organizations, government bodies, and educational institutions to implement innovative solutions, drive positive change to help bolster the economic conditions of these islands.
As Gessie bids farewell to her fellow Chevening Scholars and the academic community in East London, she expresses her heartfelt gratitude to the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, the Chevening Secretariat, and all those who supported her throughout her Chevening journey.
She acknowledges the invaluable opportunities, cross-cultural exchanges, and lifelong connections she has gained during her time as a Chevening Scholar.
