The Judiciary of the Turks & Caicos Islands invites interested persons desirous of being trained and certified as mediators, to register for its upcoming 40-hour virtual “Practical Mediation Skills Training Programme”.
The initiative is held in collaboration with the University of the West Indies, Department of Behavioural Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences.
Training will be conducted over a five-day period and participants are required to complete 40-hours of training in order to receive certification.
Only 20 persons will be accommodated for registration at this time, and training will be provided free of cost.
TOPICS & SKILLS TO BE COVERED include:
Emotional Intelligence;
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) & Mediation;
What is Conflict? /Sources of Conflict;
Conflict Resolution Processes and Skills;
Skills of the Mediator; and
Tools and Steps for Management in Mediation.
The organizers said the training is for anyone who wants to learn the art of mediation. Individuals who complete the training will be qualified to apply to be enrolled on the roster of Court-Connected Mediators, which will be created when the Court-Connected Mediation Rules 2021 come into operation on August 1, 2021.
Individuals from diverse backgrounds such as law/law enforcement, social work, retired senior public servants, religious leaders are encouraged to register.
To register, complete the attached registration form and send by email to courtadr@gov.tc or deliver to the Supreme Court Office located at 1288 Leeward Highway, Providenciales by August 15, 2021.
