the InterHealth Canada-run Turks and Caicos Islands Hospital is reporting that the country has recorded its 30th COVID-19 death on Wednesday, January 12.
In a news release, the hospital said the victim was an elderly woman, who suffered from chronic illnesses, and also was not vaccinated.
“An elderly patient with chronic medical conditions passed away at the Cockburn Town Medical Centre in Grand Turk on Wednesday, January 12th, 2022. Confirmatory PCR results were recently received. The patient was unvaccinated. The next of kin have been notified,” the hospital said.
“The Turks and Caicos Islands Hospital and the Ministry of Health and Human Services wish to extend our deepest condolences to the grieving family and friends on the unfortunate loss of their loved one,” the news release continued.
The TCI Hospitals has used the latest death to hammer home the importance of protecting oneself against contracting the disease, advising the public to take the necessary steps to guard against catching it.
“The Turks and Caicos Islands Hospital and the Ministry of Health wish to remind the general public to practice the relevant public health measures to suppress the spread of COVID-19.
“If you have symptoms suggestive of COVID-19, please take all safety precautions and stay at home unless you are seeking to take a COVID-19 test. For further information, please contact the Ministry of Health COVID-19 Hotlines on 232-9444 or 333-0911.
“If your symptoms are severe, please call 911. All persons are encouraged to strongly consider taking the COVID19 vaccine and if eligible, the booster shot,”the release said.
