Marine Branch Officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (TCHTA) were dispatched captured and detained 148 Haitian migrants trying to make a predawn landfall along these shores today (August 04th).
According to the information arm of the force, the Marine Branch received information that a suspicious vessel was seen heading in the direction of Providenciales. Acting on information received, at around 3:14 a.m., officers on board the vessel - Sea Protector. They later intercepted a sloop, approximately 6.7 miles southeast of Providenciales.
The boat was laden with 148 undocumented migrants, comprising 30 females and 118 males. The captured migrants were handed over to the Immigration Task Force for processing.
The RTCIPF has confirmed that up to August 4, a total of 23 illegal vessel interceptions have been made, which led to the capture of 3,030 Haitian Migrants, 2,408 of whom are males and 622. The total number also included 21 children.
In the meantime, the police are advising the public to notify the closest police station, 911, or call TCI Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 and give any information on illegal activity, which they can do anonymously.
