20-Year-old Man Slapped With Firearm Charges

A plethora of charges have been levelled against a 20-year-old man on Monday, August 23, by the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force crime sleuths following a shooting incident that left another injured.

Shakeme Shakur Seymour was slapped with wounding with intent, discharging a firearm, carrying a firearm and carrying ammunition.

The police said the charges were in relation to the shooting of a 31-year-old man at the Horse Stable Beach, North Caicos, on Sunday, August 8th, 2021.

Describing the shooting incident as extremely serious, Head of Crime and Public Protection, Superintendent Lisa Mitchenson, highlighted the work of her detectives who managed to make the breakthrough in the case.

“This was an extremely serious shooting incident that resulted in serious injury,” she said. “Detectives from the Serious Crimes Unit and Forensic officers were deployed to North Caicos to progress this investigation.”

She was grateful that the court was able to grant a warrant of further detention for the suspect to be held in police custody for an additional 14 days, as the police piece their case together.

“During this time, officers worked diligently to collect available evidence resulting in the suspect being charged. Police still seek further witnesses that were either at the event on that night or have any information in relation to it,” she said.

In the meantime, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force is asking anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers confidentially at 1-800-8477 (TIPS) or 911.
