Accused Gun Murderer Among Three Caught in GT, Provo Operation MIGHT  Dragnets

A fugitive wanted for murder is among persons apprehended under Operation MIGHT in Providenciales and Grand Turk, where four guns, an assortment of ammunition and drugs were seized.


According to the police, at about 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, July 9th, officers executed a search warrant at the premises occupied by a 30-year-old male in Back Salina, Grand Turk. The search yielded one firearm with an extended magazine, quantity of ammunition, and cannabis. The suspect was taken into police custody.


A day earlier - July 8th - during an operation in Dock Yard, Providenciales, two male suspects, aged 25 and 37, were apprehended. According to the police, one of the suspects had been evading capture for the past eight months and was wanted for multiple serious crimes, including murders, robberies, and firearm offenses.


The arrests were made at around 4:30 a.m. when officers executed a search warrant. The search of the premises, where the suspects were found asleep, uncovered, uncovered three firearms, which included two pistols and one shotgun, an assortment of ammunition and a quantity of drugs. Both men were arrested and the illegal items seized.


Commissioner of Police Edvin Martin, commended both the public and the police for their efforts in recovering the illegal firearms. He emphasized the RTCIPF's dedication to community safety and security, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in these efforts.


"The discovery and seizure of these illegal items highlight our commitment to tackling crime and protecting the TCI," said Commissioner Martin. "The ease with which firearms enter the country is frightening, and more needs to be done to eliminate lawbreakers and those intending to harm."


He assured that Operation MIGHT would persist as the force continues to root out criminal elements. The Commissioner also issued a stern warning to those harboring criminals, referencing the Anti-Gang Ordinance which carries severe penalties for such actions.


He added: "I urge the community to stop shielding those causing havoc. Officers will be enforcing the laws, especially the Anti-Gang Ordinance, which addresses the concealment of gang members. The law states you can spend more than ten years in jail if found to be harbouring gangsters. We encourage residents to report any suspicious activities to the police and to remain vigilant."


The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force encourages anyone with information on illegal activities or illegal firearms to contact their nearest police station, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477, or 911. Additionally, residents are urged to use the Crime Stoppers P3 app to provide information.
