The Office of the Deputy Governor has appointed Ms. Aisha Thomas to the post of District Commissioner for the island of Salt Cay within the Ministry of Home Affairs and Transportation.
Ms. Thomas holds an Associate Degree in Business Studies and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Studies with a concentration in Finance and Management from the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College.
Ms. Thomas joined the Turks and Caicos Islands Public Service in 1996 as a Clerical Officer within the then Accountant General Department. In 2012, she was transferred to the Department of Inland Revenue, where she served as a Revenue Officer and Tax Officer until this recent appointment.
During her time with Inland Revenue, Ms. Thomas benefited from various training opportunities, including Audit Capacity Building, Internal Audit, and Protocol and Diplomatic Courtesy. Ms. Thomas also benefited from a one-week attachment to Jamaica in 2016 at the Tax Administration Office and participated in the Turks and Caicos Islands Professional Development Fund (PDF).
Ms. Thomas, in commenting on her appointment, stated:
“Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
It is a tremendous honor to have been appointed District Commissioner of the Beautiful Island of Salt Cay with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Public Utilities, and Transportation.
I wish to convey my gratitude and appreciation for this opportunity. I would positively contribute to the Turks and Caicos Islands Government and the people of Salt Cay, and I have confidence in my ability to do so.
I want to thank my family for always being supportive of my decisions and my son for accepting the adjustments we both had to make and my relocation."
Acting Governor and Head of the Public Service, Her Excellency Anya Williams, in extending congratulatory remarks to Ms. Thomas, stated:
"It gives me great pleasure to officially announce and congratulate Ms. Aisha Thomas on her appointment as District Commissioner for Salt Cay.
“District Commissioners are essential to government operations for our citizens in our outer islands. They are responsible for the overall administration, safety, and procedures for crucial government services, including clinics, fire safety, coordination of police efforts, and other essential functions.
“Having dedicated her life to public service, Ms. Thomas is no stranger to government operations and financial management. Her promotion to this post is a testament to the importance of continuous learning, having utilized the opportunity as a public servant to pursue higher education assisted by the Turks and Caicos Professional Development Fund. I do not doubt that Ms. Thomas will do well in supporting the growth and continued efforts of the people on Salt Cay.
