It was a merry moment for almost 100 senior citizens from the Bight Community in Providenciales who were recently feted to a five-star gourmet experience and entertainment for the sixth year by the Beaches Turks and Caicos resort in collaboration with Senior Citizens’ Association.

Governor, Her Excellency Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, while commending the organizers for recognising the senior citizens within the area of Providenciales, shared her satisfaction in respect of the corporate partnership with the all-inclusive family resort.

“We continue to see the Beaches Turks and Caicos resort giving back to the Turks and Caicos Islands with its Sandals Foundation and community relations initiatives. These senior citizens were given the opportunity to experience fine dining within an exquisite setting to celebrate this season of giving,” Daniel-Selvaratnam shared.

General Manager, James McAnally noted, “to be able to celebrate with the seniors in Providenciales was a privilege as a number of them have contributed to the building of these islands and truly deserve to be recognized, especially at this time of the year. It is our hope that in this, the sixth year of this treat we were able to add a ray of sunshine especially during this festive season. While we continue to celebrate with these seniors, we can continue to learn from them, morals and values for a better society.”

In addition to being served a meal, the special guests received a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus with the most senior man and woman, Ernest Charles and Louis Desgages-Jolissaint, both 88 years old, being presented with prizes.

Among those being celebrated was the first female minister of government in the Turks and Caicos Islands, former Education, Youth and Sports, Environment and Land Minister, Honourable Arabella Smith.

Said Smith, “this year is my first experience with this group and I’m very satisfied with the ambiance that the resort and the organizers have put in place to celebrate this festive season with our senior citizens. The food, décor and entertainment were simply amazing and as one of the leading corporate donors in the Turks and Caicos Islands, I must say high commendations to the Beaches Turks and Caicos resort.”

There were also fun and trivia at the event, which saw some persons walking away with prizes

Having been crowned the oldest man present, Ernest Charles was overjoyed with the celebrations and the recognition given to the seniors. “The celebration this year is the best that I have seen for this event. The food and drinks were good. The entertainment and the decorations made us as senior citizens feel royal.”
