Continuous Violence In Our Communities A Cry For Greater Police Presence - Taylor

Five Cays MP Hon. Rachel Taylor pens statement blasting serious Crime In her constituency in the wake of the latest murder...a beheading of a resident in that community.

Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, and Member of Parliament for Five Cays Hon. Rachel Taylor

To my beloved community of Five Cays. It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that I am once again writing to extend my sincerest condolences following the loss of another young man from our community.

To the families affected, I sympathize with each of your losses. I cannot begin to understand the depth of your pain, and there are no words I can express to adequately meet the sorrow you, I and our community feel at this time.

However, I want you to know my thoughts and my prayers are with you and I am here to lend a shoulder to lean on or a listening ear whenever you need.

To Mrs. Angelet Tucker the mother of the most recent deceased, we believe in the God who “heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds,”[Psalm 147:3]. I pray that you are able to find God’s comfort and mercies without limitation during this time of your bereavement.

To our community, I wish to remind us that grief is a deeply personal journey and encourage us to come together, support each other, and help these families and our community to find the peace and healing much needed at this time.

Together, our community has the ability to make a significant and positive difference in the lives of our bereaving families who should not feel alone in their grief. They and the nation need to know that when one family suffers in our community, we know how to come together to help them find healing and strength. Our community is one of empathy, love, and support.

It is with a heavy heart that I am again burdened to address this plague of deadly violence that struggles to go away. I am not ignorant of the fact that the issue of violence continues to be a complex dilemma affecting not only our community.

The lives of loved ones are being cut short, tearing families apart, and shattering our sense of security. It does not matter the form of violence, violence is destructive to the lives of individuals, family, friends, and our community as a whole.

As the Minister of Youth, I will continue to work closely with our police, pastors, youth leaders, and other civic leaders to discover and explore opportunities for cultivating a positive and productive culture among our young people.

I will continue to advocate for a fixed police presence by way of an operating 24-hour police station as I have done in the past and I will continue to. I have a planned a meeting with our new Governor to discuss the concerns within the ED9 (Five Cays, South Dock, Chalk Sound, and Airport Road) Constituency and violence is top on my agenda.

The continuous violence in our communities is a cry for greater police presence through community policing and the 24-hours police station that I will continue to fight to achieve.

I know that writing a press release is not the needed fix to our violence problem. I write nonetheless because I believe it is important that in times like these, the people who have placed their trust in me to advocate for our community, need and deserve to be reassured that their representative not only mourns with them but continues to fight for them.

It is in times like these I have a moral and civic duty not to remain silent. I write because I also hope that the fact that I continue to fight for the good of our community, will encourage others to do the same.

Now is not the time for us to point blame and allow violence to further tear us socially and morally apart. We deserve better than this. We can do better than this. It is in times like these that we must unite and support each other, working together for the greater good of our beloved community.

There is no need for us to walk through this evident valley of shadows and death divided and alone. Division is what evil desires in times like these. Just as there is one God, one Shepherd, we ought to fight this evil together as one flock of sheep. I believe that together, we can all arrive at green pasture, stronger than before.

As we continue to work closely with the police, should you have any information which can assist in the advancement of this investigation, kindly contact the nearest police station , 911 or TCI Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 and give any information on this incident or any other illegal activity anonymously.
