The Serious Crimes Unit of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force is currently carrying out investigations into what they say is the gun murder of a man in a Grace Bay parking lot late Saturday night.
It is reported that the man received multiple gunshot wounds.
The police reported that shortly after 11:00 p.m., dispatchers notified investigators that a man was seen lying in the parking lot from injures received.
“Officers were dispatched to the scene where they located the body of a male with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds,” Takara Bain, the police media liaison officer reported.
In a recent news conference to highlight the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force’s strategic plan three-year crime initiative, Commissioner of Police, Trevor Botting stated that while crime over the last four years has dropped a whopping 30 percent, serious crime has not.
“Serious crime has become the measure for RTCF in terms of the progress that they are making, since it is causing most harm and most fear within the community,” Botting said.
He said the three-year strategic crime plan will be technology-driven, which will include the use of drones, among other things.
In the meantime, Bain is asking members of the police who may have information regarding what led to the man’s death to contact the authorities.
“As officers investigate the circumstances surrounding this murder, anyone with information can anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 or call the police on 911,” she urged.
