Digicel to Assess Changing Digital Landscape

Digicel will assess the changing digital landscape in the Turks and Caicos Islands following Starlink’s entry into the market, while continuing to implement its five-year technology plan.

Kern Gardiner Country Operations Manager at Digicel TCI, said the telecommunications company intends to continue investing in its network and adjusting its strategy as the market evolves.

“Digicel’s brand has always been about connecting the islands and helping people build their dreams, and we intend to continue doing that,” Gardiner said during Starlink’s launch event on August 27, 2026.

He said Digicel will evaluate how it should position itself in densely populated areas while moving forward with its planned technological developments.

Asked about concerns surrounding Starlink’s arrival and its possible effect on established telecommunications providers, Gardiner said Digicel views the development as an opportunity.

“We are now at a point where we can innovate and think about how we can create avenues for the Turks and Caicos Islands to become more connected,” he said.

Starlink uses a network of low-Earth-orbit satellites to deliver internet service, offering another connectivity option for residents and businesses, including those in areas that may be difficult to serve through conventional infrastructure.

Gardiner said Digicel would remain focused on development and making its services more accessible throughout the islands. He also promised that customers would see more of the technological work the company has been undertaking.

“We’re not doing the work in the background anymore,” he said. “We’re going to put it in front of our customers and let them understand why we are the number-one provider in the islands and why we are here to continue being that provider for them.”

Starlink’s arrival introduces a new competitor to the TCI telecommunications market, but Digicel says it intends to respond through continued investment, innovation and a stronger public presence.
