Felix Morley Community Center Expands Sporting Opportunities in Five Cays

Residents of Five Cays and surrounding communities have access to a growing range of sporting and recreational opportunities at the Felix Morley Community Center.

The center offers activities including basketball, soccer, boxing, karate and Zumba as part of an effort to encourage active lifestyles and provide a safe environment for children and adults.

Hon. Rachel Marshall-Taylor, Minister of Education, Youth, Sport and Culture and Member of Parliament for Five Cays, South Dock and Chalk Sound, highlighted the programs during the ED9 back-to-school giveaway on Sunday, August 23.

Marshall-Taylor said improvements to the property have reduced the need to bring in temporary attractions for community events.

“We didn’t really need the bouncy castles this time because we have built out our basketball court,” she said.

A soccer pitch was added this year, while the center also has a playground for younger children. Marshall-Taylor said the aim is to continue strengthening the facilities and making the area a safer and more welcoming community space.

The center’s sporting activities provide children with opportunities to exercise, develop new skills and participate in structured programs outside school hours. Adults can also take part in activities such as Zumba.

In addition to sports and recreation, the Felix Morley Community Center offers computer and music classes, homework assistance and other educational programs.

Marshall-Taylor said families attending the back-to-school giveaway were encouraged to learn about the year-round opportunities available at the center.

“It’s important for us to ensure that the parents not only come here for the experience of the back-to-school event, but also learn of activities that they can enroll their children in upon the commencement of school,” she said.

The Felix Morley Community Center is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and parents may visit during those hours to register their children for available programs.
