Five Cays Hospitality Worker Shot Dead

The Turks and Caicos Islands has recorded its sixth murder for year after a man was discovered shot dead in his car on Sunday night.
The dead man has been identified as 22-year-old hospitality worker Erod Chaute of Five Cays. It is believed Chaute was leaving work when he was attacked by unknown assailants.
According to reports, at 11:56 pm, officers from the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force responded to reports of gunshots being heard at a location in The Bight, Providenciales.
When officers arrived at the location, they were shown a parked, white vehicle, and upon closer inspection, observed the lifeless body of a male, who turned out to be Chaute, in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, slumped to the passenger’s side with what appeared to be gunshot wounds about the body.
The police said forensics team arrived, who later arrived, processed the scene and evidence was collected.
Detectives of the Serious Crime Unit are continuing investigations. No motive has been publicly established for his death.
