The Turks and Caicos Islands experienced another tragic incident as the murder count for the year surged to 38, following the fatal shooting of a man in Five Cays, Providenciales, on Thursday night.
Officers from the Serious Crime Unit responded to multiple calls reporting gunshots heard in the Club Med area of Five Cays just after 9 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, police found the lifeless body of a male victim, who had sustained what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
Crime sleuths from the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF), Â who are currently investigating the incident, said further updates will be provided as more details become available.
The RTCIPF is urging anyone with information about the crime to come forward. Members of the public are asked to contact the nearest police station, call 911, reach out to the Serious Crime Unit at 231-1842, or anonymously provide tips through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477. The Crime Stoppers P3 app is also available for anonymous submissions.
As the island community reels from another violent loss, the authorities continue their efforts to combat crime and restore peace to the streets of TCI.
