Government Seeks NQP Consultant

Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance and Trade Hon. E. Jay Saunders.

The Department of Trade, Industry and Fair Competition is embarking on a mission to lure a National Quality Policy consultant to strategize and come up with quality and safe standards for goods and services in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The government has notified the public of its intention to seek the quality control czar in a news release this week.

“A National Quality Policy (NQP) is essential for the Turks and Caicos Islands to focus efforts, establish, effectively resource, and maintain globally recognized quality standards and conformity assessment regimes for goods and services,” a news release from the Ministry of Finance and Trade said.

The news release further stated that the NQP would guide a more efficient and directional development of the National Quality Infrastructure (NQI), which refers to autonomous but related institutions that collectively work to guarantee the quality and safety of products and services for local and international use.

The QI, the news release further stated, would also aims to safeguard human, animal, and plant health and safety while facilitating a smooth and sustainable trade flow.

It noted that qualified consultants are invited to apply to support the development of an NQP for the TCI. The scope of work would include developing a short-medium-long-term implementation plan for the TCI to provide strategic and operational direction for the accelerated development of a National Quality Infrastructure, along with a suitable technical regulation system.
