Grace Kennedy Western Union Waives Transfer Fees to Support Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa

ree

In an effort to assist families affected by Hurricane Melissa, which made landfall in southern Jamaica on Tuesday, October 28, leaving a trail of death and destruction, Grace Kennedy Western Union has announced a special promotion to facilitate remittances without the usual transfer fees.

Anne Gibson, Operations Supervisor for Grace Kennedy Money Services in the Turks and Caicos Islands, shared details of the initiative.

"Whenever you're sending money back home to Jamaica, we only charge you $1, which covers the tax fee. There’s no additional transfer fee during this period," she explained.

This initiative allows customers to send money to their loved ones in Jamaica free of the usual Western Union charges, starting from the day Hurricane Melissa made landfall last week and ending on November 7th. The promotion is designed to help families in need during this difficult recovery period, according to Gibson.

Gibson emphasized the community-oriented spirit behind the move.

"Grace Kennedy is deeply rooted in Jamaica and the Caribbean community. Many of our own family members and colleagues were impacted by the hurricane. This is our way of helping them and supporting all those affected," she said.

The service is available at two locations in Turks and Caicos, one at Tropicana Plaza in Grace Bay and  the other on the premises of  Kendell Gas Station, Downtown Providenciales.
