Graceway Communities, the charitable arm of Graceway Supermarkets, collaborated with the Ministry of Health and Human Services for the Caribbean Wellness Health Fair, held on September 18 at Graceway IGA, Leeward Highway.

Held as part of Caribbean Wellness Week, the Fair brought health services, education, nutrition and physical activity directly to the community, giving attendees an opportunity to learn more about their health and make healthier lifestyle choices.

The Health Promotion and Advocacy Unit within the Ministry of Health and Human Services conducted health screenings for 22 individuals, offering checks for blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and weight, as well as STI testing. An additional 15 individuals received health education and informational materials.

The Turks and Caicos Islands National Blood Bank completed 13 blood groupings, while 3 individuals registered as blood donors during the Fair.

The event also featured cooking demonstrations, with 20 samples distributed to promote healthier food choices. Janelle Ambrister and Let’s Move TCI led fitness activities, with 13 participants taking part.

Other participating government departments included the TCI Dental Department and Department of Behavioural Health Services, providing attendees with additional health information, resources and services.

Local businesses Alkalight Nutrition and Island Sprout also supported the healthy-living focus, providing samples and educating attendees about healthier food and lifestyle choices.

Graceway Communities hosted a hydration and juicing station and encouraged attendees to engage with the different services available throughout the Fair. Participants who completed activities at three or more booths were entered into a raffle for wellness-focused prizes, including air fryers, blenders and juicers, helping extend the message of healthier living into the home.

“We are grateful to the Ministry of Health and Human Services for extending the invitation to Graceway Communities to collaborate on this year’s Caribbean Wellness Health Fair. Bringing health screenings, education, nutrition and physical activity together in one space gave members of our community an opportunity to take practical steps toward healthier living,” said Rukine Pierre, Outreach Coordinator for Graceway Communities.

Graceway Communities extends its appreciation to the Ministry of Health and Human Services, Health Promotion and Advocacy Unit, participating government departments and initiatives, Alkalight Nutrition, Island Sprout, Janelle Ambrister, the Graceway Communities volunteer team, and everyone who participated in making the Fair a success.
