Grand Turk Death Ruled a Murder

The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) has confirmed that the death of a man discovered along North Back Salina, Grand Turk, on Wednesday evening has been classified as a homicide.
According to police reports, at approximately 7:17 p.m. on November 12th, the Police Control Room received a call about a male lying at the rear of a vehicle in the North Back Salina area.
Responding officers arrived promptly at the scene, where they found an unresponsive man who appeared lifeless. A medical practitioner was summoned and subsequently pronounced the victim deceased.
The deceased has been identified as Melvin Wellington of Grand Turk.
Police say a female relative of the victim is currently in custody, assisting investigators with their ongoing inquiries.
In a statement issued Thursday morning, the RTCIPF extended condolences to the family and loved ones of Mr. Wellington during this difficult time.
Investigators are appealing to the public for assistance as they continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Serious Crimes Unit at 231-1842, or to report anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 (TIPS).
