Guyanese Man Charged With Raping Minor


The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force are reporting that a 47-year-old Guyanese man has been charged with rape and was set to appear in court today, Friday, May 28.


The police gave the man’s name as Derrick Miller, who has been charged with, two counts of rape of a girl under 13 years age; one count of meeting a child following sexual grooming and one count of sexual communication with a child.


The police did not say when or where the act(s) took place. They described the matter as “extremely sensitive and complex investigation”, pointing out that investigation was ongoing.


To that end, the police are asking anyone with information to contact investigators with such material, assuring that all reported matters would be kept in the strictest of confidence.


“If this report affects you or someone you know in any way, or if you have any information for the investigation team, then please contact the police without delay on 232-6696. All calls with be directed to specialist officers working within the Public Protection Unit, who will deal with you sensitively and confidentially,” Takara Bain, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force Information Officer, assured in a news release.
