Heightened Security Alert and Temporary Suspension of Visitation at the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre

The Turks and Caicos Islands Hospital (Cheshire Hall Medical Centre) has implemented a heightened security alert following a reported gun-related incident where one man was shot dead and another hospitalized Wednesday.

The attack took place in Blue Hills just after nightfall. The hospital management is advising the public that visitation to the in-patient unit at the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre has been temporarily suspended due to security concerns.

"Only in serious cases of emergencies you can visit the emergency department. In addition, surgical and routine outpatient clinics, X-rays and laboratory services will remain open. This restriction is only to the in-patient unit of the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre.

"The Turks and Caicos Islands Hospital’s administration regrets any inconvenience caused by this decision that is necessary to preserve the safety of our staff, patients and their families.

The public will be updated once this aspect of the business is completed," the hospital said in a statement.
