July 1 Sufficiency Hearing For US Visitor Charged With Illegal Gun

A sufficiency hearing for an American Tourist caught allegedly with a firearm as he tried to leave the country is scheduled for July 7.


Authorities give the entity of the man as Alex Julian Guzman, 23, of Wyoming, Michigan.

According to Denyse Renne, the information officer of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, on Tuesday April, 25, 2023, Guzman booked in at the Providenciales


International Airport to depart the country, when security personnel at the facility discovered a firearm and ammunition in his luggage.


He was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition by the Serious Crime Unit of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force.


When Guzman appeared before the Supreme Court on May 5, he was granted $20,000 bail with the following conditions: one or two sureties or $20,000 cash; visit the Grace Bay Police Station every Wednesday between 8am -5pm; and surrender all travel documents.
