The Turks and Caicos Islands Government has appointed Latoya Mitchell as the Deputy Director of Immigration in the Ministry of Immigration and Border Services.
Mitchell, a native Grand Turk, embarked on her journey in the Civil Service as an Immigration Officer back in 2004. The Deputy Governor’s Office stated that her unwavering commitment, profound expertise in her field, and strong moral values have consistently enabled her to collaborate effectively with various local and international departments over the years.
In 2012, Mitchell assumed a pivotal role within the ministry's Intelligence Unit, overseeing its day-to-day operations. The Deputy Governor’s Office stated that ser dedication and leadership were unmistakable.
In November 2022, she played a key role in co-heading the merger of a unified Intelligence Unit for both the Ministry of Immigration and Customs, which the Deputy Governor’s Office stated was a testament to her strategic vision and collaborative spirit.
Additionally, in April 2023, Mitchell achieved a well-deserved promotion to the Head of Intelligence within the ministry. Her rise through the ranks, according to the Deputy Governor’s Office, bears testament to her outstanding contributions and dedication to her profession.
Mitchell's commitment to her work, the Deputy Governor’s Office continued, and her role in safeguarding the pristine shores of the Turks and Caicos Islands is deeply rooted in her philosophy.
She draws inspiration from the late Steve Jobs, who once said, "Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. Mitchell's pursuit of knowledge and skill enhancement is unceasing. She holds a CERT.CJC Certificate in Criminal Justice Communication and is currently engaged in pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice at Southern New Hampshire University, a reflection of her commitment to personal and professional growth.
