The 240 undocumented Haitian Migrants, who local authorities intercepted before making landfall on Tuesday (April 25), at post time, were being processed for repatriation.

The latest capture brings the 13, the number of interceptions made by the RTCIPF since January, which resulted in the apprehension of 1,699 migrants attempting to land in illegally in Turks and Caicos.

The predawn interception took place about 4:30, by the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force’s (RTCIPF) Marine Branch.

Reports are that operators of the Coastal Radar Station picked up the anomaly on their radar and alerted the police. Officers, who were then dispatched as a result, spotted the 45ft wooden vessel, powered by twin outboard engines transporting the Haitian migrants.

The police counted 49 males and 191 females, inclusive of two minors. The captured migrants were afterwards handed over to the Immigration Task Force for processing.

In the meantime, the Royal Turks and Caicos islands Police Force is advising the public to notify the closest police station or to anonymously contact Crime Stoppers and give information on any illegal activity in the community or on our waters, assuring the public that Crime Stoppers calls are answered in Miami and in Houston by Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.
