A local journalist was among two individuals injured during a shooting incident in the Blue Hills area on the evening of Tuesday, May 28, 2025.

Journalist Wilkie Arthur, known for his legal reporting with Eagle Legal News, was reportedly wounded in the incident, which occurred near a popular dining establishment around 7:23 p.m.

According to the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RT&CIPF), multiple units responded swiftly after the Police Control Room received reports of loud explosions in the area. During their initial canvassing of the scene, officers encountered a male whose behaviour aroused suspicion. The individual, a minor, was stopped, searched, and subsequently arrested on suspicion of discharging a firearm.

Further investigations led police to a residence on Bay Road, where a 23-year-old male was found with a gunshot wound to the right leg. A second victim, Arthur, 50, also sustained a gunshot injury to his thumb. The police said it is believed that Arthur was in the company of others when the gunfire erupted.

Both injured parties were transported to medical facilities for treatment.

Police have not confirmed a motive for the shooting but stated that the investigation is ongoing. Authorities believe the suspected shooter is now in custody.

The RT&CIPF is urging members of the public to come forward with any information that could aid the investigation. Anyone with details or relevant CCTV footage is asked to contact 911, the Serious Crime Unit at 231-1842, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 (TIPS).
