
A 22-year-old male, Keniel Duvervil, of The Bight, Providenciales, has been sentenced to seven years in prison following a guilty verdict for four firearm-related offenses.
The trial, which took place in the Grand Turk Supreme Court from September 25, 2023, to October 18, 2023, concluded with Mr. Duvervil being found guilty on multiple charges.
The charges against Duvervil included two counts of possession of a firearm
two counts of possession of ammunition.
The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on August 7, 2022, at approximately 12:12 p.m. During this time, officers from the Serious Crimes Unit, Criminal Investigations Department, and the Tactical Unit conducted an operation that involved executing an authority to search for a firearm at Mr. Duvervil's residence.
During the search, a 9mm Glock 17 pistol was discovered in Duvervil's home. Additionally, an authority to search was executed on a silver Nissan Fuga owned by Duvervil, leading to the discovery of a rifle in the car's trunk.
As a result of the findings during the operation, Duvervil was promptly arrested and charged with the offenses. The subsequent trial, which spanned several weeks, ultimately led to his conviction and subsequent sentencing to seven years of imprisonment.
The verdict and sentencing underscore the seriousness with which firearm-related offenses are treated by the legal system, emphasizing the importance of strict adherence to laws and regulations governing firearms and ammunition possession in Providenciales.
