Pandemic-Inspired Educational Book Sparks Multi-School Literacy Donation by Local Author

Local author and finance professional Sabrina Palmer-Isaac has launched  a targeted community literacy initiative rooted in a deeply personal family story, benefiting young learners and children with special educational needs on Providenciales.

SABRINA personally distributed 44 copies of her custom-designed educational book collection, Turks and Caicos ABC,123, ABC Activity, 123 Activity, splitting the donation to maximize impact between her public primary school Alma Mater, Oseta Jolly Primary School in Blue Hills, and the Special Needs Association Providenciales (SNAP) Center in Kew Town.

The inspiration for the book series was born out of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. While homeschooling her young son, Sabrina noticed a lack of localized educational materials, with most books utilizing the usual internationally recognized references like "A is for Apple."

Recognizing a gap, she began creating custom lessons using local Turks and Caicos landmarks, flora, and marine life, teaching foundational concepts through local staples like "A is for Angelfish" and " Q is for Queen Conch." Witnessing her son's immediate engagement and growing patriotism, she realized that schools and parents across the country could benefit from the same culturally resonant tools.

"What began as a mother trying to foster a love for country and literacy in her own home turned into a mission for our entire nation," said Sabrina. "Early education and representation matter deeply. I wanted to celebrate this milestone in my life by honoring the institutions that shaped my own journey, while ensuring that children with diverse and special learning needs have access to engaging tools that make them proud of who they are."

Due to the large student population at Oseta Jolly Primary School, 30 books were designated to seed multiple early childhood classrooms. The remaining 14 books were gifted to the SNAP Center, where the collection's highly interactive activity formats will directly support the center's tailored, tactile learning curriculum.

This initial donation marks the launch of a broader campaign to scale literacy access across all islands. Sabrina is actively inviting corporate partners, local resorts, and non-profit organizations to join the initiative through corporate social responsibility (CSR) sponsorships to fund larger book distributions for classrooms throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands.
