PDM Deputy Leader Attends International Conservatives Conference

Deputy Leader of the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) Mr. Robert Been, travelled to Manchester, UK from October 1st to 4th to attend the Conservative Party Conference 2023.


Been, along with other delegates from the Caribbean Democrat Union (CDU), participated in several bilateral meetings with key officials including Rt. Hon. James Cleverly - UK Foreign Secretary, Rt. Hon. Greg Hands - Chairman of the Conservative Party, and Hon. Richard Graham - Chair of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) Board of Governors.


As part of the international delegation attending the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester, Been also met with other delegates from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Matters affecting the TCI and the wider region were discussed including climate change, the rise in gun violence, and illegal migration.


Been also attended several panel discussions on Youth in Politics, The Rise of Disinformation, Strengthening Democracy Globally, and New Technologies in the Energy Industry including the use of Hydrogen.

While in Manchester, Been also took the opportunity to engage with a few members of the TCI diaspora to gain a deeper understanding of the issues they face and to also share the PDM’s position on matters impacting the Turks and Caicos Islands.

“It was an honor and privilege to represent the Turks and Caicos Islands and the People’s Democratic Movement at this major conference with my colleagues from the CDU and other delegates from around the world,” Been Said in a statement.


He continued: “The bilateral meetings and other engagements were important opportunities to discuss the pressing issues facing our country and our people, particularly gun violence, cost of living and illegal migration.


“The PDM is committed to representing the people of the TCI at the highest levels and looks forward to further engagements and meaningful dialogue with our international partners working to strengthen democracy and good governance practice.”
