On Saturday, 28 March 2026, participants in the 2026 TCI Top Model contest took part in a transformative workshop, “Showing Up: The Power of Presence", led by Melanie Smith, Managing Director of Talent Recruitment Group.

The intensive session translated industry insight into immediate, career‑ready tools, teaching participants how to make unforgettable first impressions, communicate with clarity at castings and interviews, and turn casual conversation into lasting professional connections.
The session opened with a reminder that perception often precedes speech: attendees have seconds to establish credibility. Through practical demos and guided activities, participants refined presentation elements—dress, punctuality, posture, eye contact, and handshake—and learnt to speak with intention by slowing down, using purposeful pauses, and minimising fillers. Rehearsal techniques helped reframe nerves as focused energy and prepare calm responses to tough questions.
The workshop introduced the A.R.E. method (Anchor, Reveal, Encourage) to turn brief exchanges into memorable dialogue, emphasising active listening, reflective responses, and thoughtful follow-ups. The networking module promoted intentional outreach—researching contacts, leading with value, and sending personalised follow-ups within 24 hours—and showed how a curated, authentic social media presence can serve as a professional portfolio.
Role play anchored the session: participants perfected a 60-second casting intro, name, origin, one defining trait, and industry motivation and ran two-minute networking drills to sharpen openers, sustain conversation, and close smoothly. Mrs Smith gave immediate, targeted feedback to increase composure, refine delivery, and quicken conversational tempo under pressure.
“Professional presence is a trainable skill,” said the recruitment and training executive. “Today’s attendees left with concrete techniques that make them memorable for the right reasons—reliable, poised and unmistakably ready to connect. That confidence doesn’t just open doors; it creates opportunity and accelerates careers.”
Courtney Robinson, Founder and Executive Producer of TCI Top Model, added, “In an industry driven by first impressions and relationships, Showing Up gave models the rehearsal, strategy and confidence to turn raw talent into lasting careers. The calibre of this workshop will have a profound and enduring impact.”
The Turks and Caicos’ premier fashion event returns bigger and bolder. Cycle 7 of TCI Top Model culminates in a spectacular Grand Finale on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, at Brayton Hall, Providenciales – expect high fashion, fierce competition and unforgettable entertainment.
