Prisoners Make Second Quarter Visit To Church

The Department of Correction and Rehabilitation continuing its mission to foster positive relationships between the community and the department, when on Sunday, 18 June 2023, it hosted its second quarterly church visit to the Grand Turk Methodist Church for its Father’s Day Service.


Among the Department representatives and Ministry officials werew Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Otis Morris, Permanent Secretary Mrs. Bridgette Newman, Head of Secretariat, Ms. Shanetta Thompson, Superintendent Mr. Michael Woodbine, members of the senior management team, officers, and inmates visited the Grand Turk Methodist Church for their Father’s Day Service.


Superintendent Woodbine highlighted in his address, the impact of people being away from their children on Father’s Day and public sector workers who often miss significant family celebrations due to their work commitments.


Mr Woodbine also spoke about the difficulties of resettlement, accommodation, employment and community acceptance for ex-prisoners and asked for community support in embracing those returning to society post-imprisonment, in an effort to tackle the occurrence of reoffending and recidivism.


The superintendent spoke of the importance of faith in the prison and the support, hope and opportunities faith offers to all.


During the service, one inmate shared his experience and how incarceration impacted his life and family. This was received by the congregation with cheers along with some tears.


Produce from the farm and other food items were presented to Reverend Claire Robinson for distribution to members of the congregation.


The Department of Correctional Services will continue to provide rehabilitative opportunities for inmates and prepare them for reintegration into society.
