Rising Boat Thefts Prompt Community Concern and Police Action

Superintendent Dwight Gardiner

In recent times, a concerning surge in boat thefts has gripped various locales within the TCI community, sparking alarm among residents and authorities alike.

These brazen thefts not only result in significant financial losses for boat owners but also pose a tangible threat to public safety and security. The stolen vessels range from modest recreational boats to mid-sized craft, indicating a broad spectrum of targets for the perpetrators.

According to the Royal Turk and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF), It appears that these criminals are motivated by various objectives, including the resale value of the stolen boats, facilitating illegal migration, or deploying them for other illicit activities.

Responding to this escalating concern, the  RTCIPF said it has initiated proactive measures to investigate these reported incidents.

Superintendent Dwight Gardiner, overseeing Divisions and Community Policing, affirms the force's unwavering commitment to tackling this issue head-on. He urges boat owners to bolster their security measures to safeguard their valuable assets.

"We are resolutely dedicated to addressing this escalating problem and bringing the perpetrators to justice," Superintendent Gardiner declares. "We implore anyone in possession of pertinent information regarding these thefts or the whereabouts of stolen vessels to come forward and assist us in our efforts to combat this criminal activity."

Gardiner emphasizes the pivotal role of community cooperation in thwarting further thefts and ensuring accountability under the law.

"With the steadfast support of our community, we are actively working to prevent future incidents and hold those responsible accountable," he asserts.

The RTCIPF appeals to citizens to report any information related to these illegal activities promptly. Individuals can reach out to emergency services at 911, visit the nearest police station, contact the Serious Crime Unit at 231-1842, or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477. Moreover, the public is encouraged to utilize the CrimeStoppers P3 app for convenient and confidential reporting.

As the community unites in solidarity against this rising threat, authorities remain steadfast in their commitment to preserving public safety and upholding the rule of law. Through collective vigilance and collaboration, they aim to stem the tide of boat thefts and ensure the well-being of residents and their property.
