Road-Side Body Death Inconclusive

The autopsy on the body of an identified man found off the shoulder of the road on Millennium Highway, Providenciales, on June 19th, is inconclusive according to the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force.

According to a news release issued by the police, the man apparently died from blunt force trauma. “It is not, however, clear how such trauma was inflicted,” the police said in the statement.

The police said though that the man’s death has been classified as suspicious, and officers were conducting enquiries to establish the circumstances of his death.

“A number of possible explanations are being considered, including homicide and a road traffic collision,” the report further stated.

“The incident remains under active investigation by the Serious Crime Unit of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force,” the police added.

The unidentified male, the police said, is 5 fee 8 inches, of slim build, about 150 - 160 pounds, and appears to be between the ages of 18 – 25. The police added that body was clad only in blue shorts with a white stripe down the outer right leg. The lower end of this white stripe was red.

“The male victim was barefooted and has distinctive scars on his upper chest and a short haircut.

“The RTCIPF is seeking the assistance of the public in positively identifying the male victim. Based on preliminary information a call was placed to the Police Control Room on Monday 19 June 2023 at around 6:58 a.m. indicating that the lifeless body of a male was laying on the roadside.

“RTCIPF officers arrived at the location and found the bleeding body with what appeared to be a wound to the head,” the report further stated.

Investigators, the report stated, believe that the man may have been living locally, and are keen to speak to anyone who believes a friend or relative in Providenciales may have been missing since Sunday 18th June 2023 or anyone who might know the identity of this man.

Any witnesses to any event along that stretch of Millennium Highway between 11 p.m. on Sunday 18th June and 7 a.m. on Monday 19th June are asked to contact 911, the closest police station, or call TCI Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 and give any information on this incident or any other illegal activity anonymously.
