Salt Rakers Aquatic Club Receives Approval for Competition-size Swimming Pool

Salt Rakers Aquatic Club has received approval from the Planning Department for the construction of a new swimming pool facility in The Bight community, marking a significant milestone for the development of swimming and water safety programmes in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Club President Bennett Williams, speaking on behalf of the club, noted that the approved project will feature a 25-metre, 10-lane swimming pool designed to support competitive swimming, youth development, and water safety education throughout the country.

The club currently conducts training sessions in the ocean and at beaches across the Turks and Caicos Islands. While these locations have enabled the programme to continue serving young swimmers, club officials say the long-term vision has always been to establish a safe, structured, and permanent facility for athletes and community members.

To help make the project a reality, Salt Rakers Aquatic Club has launched its Third Annual Summer Raffle Fundraiser. Proceeds from the fundraiser will support the construction of the new pool and the continued growth of the club's programmes.

The club highlighted the impact of last year's raffle, noting that 50 percent of the funds raised were used to assist young swimmers participating in international competitions in The Bahamas. Each participating athlete received $500 in financial support to help offset travel and competition expenses.

Club officials believe the new facility will provide lasting benefits beyond the organisation itself, creating opportunities for children, families, schools, and residents of Providenciales to access swimming instruction, water safety training, recreational activities, and competitive swimming programmes.

Once completed, the swimming pool is expected to become an important community asset and a major step forward in strengthening aquatic sports and water safety initiatives across the Turks and Caicos Islands.
