Michael Silver, 39, of Five Cays, Providenciales, is scheduled to appear before a magistrate on Tuesday, September 9, 2024, to face charges related to child molestation.

According to the Safeguarding and Public Protection Unit (SPPU), Silver has been charged with engaging in sexual activity with a minor under the age of 16.

The charges follow an investigation that began after an incident allegedly occurred in July 2023. SPPU officers arrested Silver in early September 2024, officially charging him on September 3. Following his arrest, Silver was granted bail in the amount of $5,000.

The upcoming court date will be the first significant legal step in the case, where Silver is expected to address the serious accusations brought against him. The specifics of the alleged incident have not been disclosed to the public, but the charges underscore the severity of the offense, which carries grave legal and social consequences.

The Safeguarding and Public Protection Unit, which is responsible for investigating and prosecuting crimes involving vulnerable individuals, including children, has been actively involved in the case. The SPPU's mandate is to protect children from abuse, exploitation, and harm, ensuring that those responsible for such actions are brought to justice.

In light of the allegations against Silver, the SPPU has used this case as an opportunity to remind the public about the importance of reporting any suspicions of child abuse. The agency stressed that reporting child abuse is a collective responsibility and provided various channels for citizens to safely and confidentially report any concerns.

If anyone suspects that a child is being abused or has knowledge of an allegation, the SPPU encourages them to immediately take action by:

  • Making a report at the nearest police station

  • Contacting the Safeguarding and Public Protection Unit at 232-6696

  • Contacting the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) at 338-4013

  • Reaching the Department of Social Development at 338-4008

  • Dialing emergency services at 911

The SPPU reassured the public that all calls and reports are treated with sensitivity and strict confidentiality, as protecting children remains their utmost priority. The agency continues to work diligently in addressing abuse cases and ensuring the safety and well-being of minors across the islands.
