The SWA Sharks are champions of the Gilley’s Premier League after beating Blue Hills 4-2 in extra time on Sunday, after a 2-2 deadlock after regulation and extra time.
In what was a very tight game between two well-drilled and strong teams, which was preceded by the Turks and Caicos Islands U17’s beating Anguilla 3-1, the Sharks went up 2-0 before the half-time with goals from Jeff Beljour and Elton Charles.
However, Blue Hills came roaring back in the second half with relentless attacks, which caused them to draw level before the end of the second stanza. The goals were scored by Junior Billy and Peterson Pluviose.
Both sides pressed for the tiebreaker, and came close doing so, with each hitting the crossbar.
With all to play for in extra time and with both teams trying to avoid the dreaded penalty shootout, it was the Sharks who found the extra energy, netting two goals, courtesy of Lenford Singh and Jeff Beljour.
Academy Eagles finish the league in third position came third in the overall standings.
