Three Chevening Scholarships Awarded for 2021-22

For the very first time three local TCI scholars will be awarded within the same academic year. Three outstanding ladies – Alexa Cooper, Christiane Lewis, and Shanice Williams – will receive a Chevening Scholarship for the 2021/22 academic year to Study their Master’s Degree in the UK. All three successful applicants are scheduled to meet with His Excellency Nigel Dakin on Friday 3rd September to receive their award at a pre-departure event. This is a moment to celebrate, as it demonstrates the growing reach and impact of the Chevening Scholarship Programme.

Ms. Alexa Cooper Ms. Cooper is currently VP of SME Development at the Invest Turks & Caicos agency. She will be traveling to the UK to study for an MSC in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Queen Mary University of London, and is expected to start her studies on the 19th September 2021.

Ms. Christiane Lewis Ms Lewis is currently the Assurance Associate at Grant Thornton TCI. She will be travelling to the UK to study for an MSC in International Accounting and Finance at the University of Strathclyde, and is expected to start her studies on 13th September 2021.

Ms. Shanice Williams Ms. Williams is currently a Finance Manager at the Wymara Resort and also still holds the title of Miss Turks and Caicos. She will be travelling to the UK to study for an MSC in Finance and Management at the University of Kent, and is expected to begin her studies on the 18th September 2021.

All three ladies say that they are excited to begin their Cheveing journey and looking forward to all that has to offer.

Applications Are Open – 3rd August – 2 November 2021 Applications for Chevening Scholarships to study in the UK are currently open. This year’s application window opened 3 August and closes 2 November 2021, with applications to be submitted via www.chevening.org/apply.


Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals with demonstrable leadership potential who also have strong academic backgrounds. The scholarship offers full financial support for future leaders to study for any eligible master’s degree at any UK university whilst also gaining access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional, and cultural experiences.

Since the programme was created in 1983, over 55,000 outstanding professionals have had the opportunity to develop in the UK through Chevening. This year 64,408 applications were received worldwide with around 10% of these applicants make it to the interview. There are more than 1,500 scholarships on offer globally for the 2021/2022 academic year, demonstrating the UK’s ongoing commitment towards developing the leaders of tomorrow.
