Turks & Caicos Islands Community College Launches College Month 2024, Announces Mascot Design Challenge Winner

The Turks and Caicos Islands Community College (TCICC) proudly announces the commencement of College Month 2024, running from March 1st to 31st, under the theme: "Your Holistic Development: Unleashing Your Potential."


This annual celebration emphasises TCICC's commitment to fostering comprehensive growth and excellence among its student body.


"As Minister, one of my key commitments is to engage with you on a regular basis, to ensure that you are well informed of the developments and opportunities that are taking place on the educational front," expressed the Minister of Education, Honourable Rachel Taylor. She continued by stating, "Your potential is ultimately what you work for. Thus, it's best to work for the things that you desire so that you enjoy the process."

Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Barbara Ambrister, Chairman of the Board of Governors, highlighted the significance of seizing opportunities and the role of preparation in realising success. "Success occurs when opportunity meets preparation," she affirmed. Dr. Ambrister further underscored that the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College is a preparation ground, where individuals take their first steps in grasping the promise of success.


Importantly, Dr. Ambrister added, "We are more than an academic institution; we nurture and care for our students during their journey here with us at TCICC."


President of TCI Community College, Dr. Candice Williams, reiterated the theme of holistic development and reaffirmed the college's commitment to nurturing the full spectrum of its students' potential. Dr. Williams expressed, "The month of March holds a special significance for us at TCICC.


It's a time when we come together to celebrate our institution's commitment to academic excellence and community engagement. College Month serves as a beacon of our dedication to nurturing a vibrant and enriching environment for all who walk through our doors."


As part of the month of festivities, the president also announced the results of the TCICC Mascot Design Challenge, declaring Saphina Blaise as the victor for her creation (with a cash prize of $600), with her design dubbed, Triton the Shark as the official mascot of TCICC, symbolising unity, pride, and institutional identity.

Ms. Blaise also won the Viewers' Choice Award (cash Prize of $200). Second place went to Dorisa Cox with The Marine Scholar Dolphin Design (with a cash Prize of $400).


Student Support Officer, Ms. Rachel Harvey, elaborated on the various initiatives planned for College Month, ranging from panel discussions to cultural day events, open days, and the eagerly anticipated inaugural Float Motorcade. Vice President of TCI Community College Student Executive Guild, Alex Taylor, conveyed the palpable excitement among the student body for the upcoming activities, affirming their commitment to active participation and engagement throughout College Month.

- March 5 & 18: Panel Discussions in Providenciales and Grand Turk Respectively

- March 5: Cultural Day on Both Campuses

- March 8 & 18: Float Procession

- March 12 & 19: Open Days for Grand Turk and Providenciales

- March 13 & 14: Quiz Bowl Prelims and Finals in Grand Turk

- March 15: Staff Wellness Retreat

- March 21 & 22: Run/Walk for Providenciales and Grand Turk

- March 9 & 21: Student Guild Events in Grand Turk and Providenciales


As College Month 2024 unfolds, TCICC extends a warm invitation to students, faculty, staff, and the broader community to join us in celebrating the spirit of learning, growth, and community.
