Two Caregivers Arrested in Child Abuse Investigation

The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) has confirmed the arrest of two women following allegations of child abuse.

On Monday, September 29, 2025, the police received a referral from the Department of Social Development after a one-year-old girl was taken to hospital with an injury.

As a result of coordinated efforts between agencies, two female caregivers, aged 37 and 45, were taken into custody. They are being held on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and child abuse.

Police assured the public that the case is being treated with the highest priority, noting that the protection and welfare of children remain paramount. Support services are being extended to the family, while investigators continue to work closely with partner agencies as part of the safeguarding process.

Authorities are also urging members of the public not to circulate photos or videos related to the incident on social media or other platforms, warning that doing so could retraumatize the child and family, infringe on their privacy, and compromise the ongoing investigation.

The RTCIPF’s Safeguarding and Public Protection Unit has reiterated the importance of immediate reporting in cases of suspected child abuse. Members of the public can report concerns through the following channels:
