
The Member of Parliament for Wheeland, Hon. Kyle Knowles, has raised concerns over what he alleges to be an act of sabotage that led to a fire at the local landfill on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
The incident has resulted in black plumes of smoke, posing a choking hazard to residents in the area.
MP Knowles conveyed his apprehensions through a letter addressed to his constituency, outlining the efforts taken to control and distinguish the flames. Emergency response teams, including firefighters and environmental health personnel, were swiftly dispatched to the community to address the situation.

In the letter, MP Knowles stated, "Blatant attempts at sabotage will not be tolerated under any circumstances, as I will see to it that the incident in question will receive the necessary attention and investigation." The landfill fire is currently being managed by contractor operators, with the Minister responsible for Health ensuring the availability of necessary resources to extinguish the flames.
