A woman who was knocked down while attempting the cross a section of the Leeward Highway in Providenciales on Saturday, died while undergoing emergency treatment at the Cheshire Hall Medical Center in Providenciales.
Â

The incident took place in the vicinity of Caicos Lodge just after midday. A police source confirmed that she was pronounced dead minutes after 1p.m.
Â
The woman was knocked down in the eastbound lane, and it appeared the that the driver lost control of the motor vehicle during the accident, as the car, which sustained heavy frontal damage, came to a stop in the median, facing west.
Â
At the time of writing, the police did not provide the name or age of the woman, neither the driver of the motor vehicle, even though our police source described him as a young man.
Â
Her death brings to three, the number of persons who have died because of auto accidents since the beginning of the year. The first fatal accident since 2026, which also took place along the Leeward highway, in the vicinity of Central Square on March 6, claimed the lives of two people, a woman and her grandson.
It was reported that the woman, who was the driver of the vehicle, collided with a pick-up truck. Three children were reportedly in the vehicle at the time.
Â
The woman was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene. However, the child, who was flown to Colombia, died while undergoing treatment. The other two children, as well as the driver of the pick-up truck were treated and released.
