The certification ceremony marked more than the end of a culinary course, it celebrated personal growth, creativity, and resilience among the participants. Addressing a gathering of parents, supporters, and invited guests, Wilson described the program as a transformative journey designed to equip young women with practical life skills.

“Today is not just a ceremony. It’s a celebration of growth, creativity, courage, and determination,” Wilson said, noting that participants learned not only baking techniques but also patience, discipline, teamwork, and confidence.

Over the course of the program, the students developed a wide range of baking skills, from mixing and kneading dough to decorating cakes. Their creations included Italian bomboloni, popcorn treats, and savory dishes such as stromboli. The curriculum also incorporated cultural elements, with sessions on traditional local desserts like cream cakes.

The initiative benefited from contributions by guest instructors and community partners. Canadian baker Christina Barry, who supports a cancer charity through her baking, participated in a special apple pie session and sent well wishes to the students. Local entrepreneur Heather MacTale also guided participants in preparing traditional treats, encouraging them to explore niche business opportunities within the local market.

Professional pastry chefs from leading resorts, including The Ritz-Carlton and The Palms, assisted with cake decorating sessions, helping students refine their presentation skills.

Beyond the kitchen, participants built friendships and completed educational projects, including presentations on baking tools and equipment. Motivational support was also provided by Selina Ross, Miss Supranational TCI, who encouraged the young women to embrace their confidence and potential.

Wilson expressed gratitude to sponsors, instructors, and the Salvation Army for supporting the initiative, as well as to parents for their continued encouragement.

In her closing remarks, she praised the participants for their dedication and urged them to apply the skills learned throughout their lives.

“Whether you go on to start a business or simply bake for your families, know that you are capable of creating something beautiful,” she said.

The program forms part of ongoing efforts to empower young people in the Turks and Caicos Islands through skills training and mentorship, with organizers hopeful of expanding future editions of the master class.
