Accused Child Molesting Prisoner Escapes Prison

The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation can confirm that at 10:30 am Sunday May 9th, it was discovered that a prisoner had absconded from Her Majesty’s Prison in Grand Turk. 

 

The prisoner, a Dominican national, who answers to the name of Johnie Adescat, is a remand prisoner who was arrested and charged with two counts of unlawful carnal knowledge. He is a resident of White Wing, which houses inmates who present the lowest risk to themselves, others and the community. It is believed that the prisoner escaped between the hours of 8:00 pm last evening and 10:30 am this morning, when he was discovered missing. 

 


The Superintendent of Prisons, David Bowden and staff are working closely with members of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force for the recapture of the prisoner, who is now believed to be in Providenciales.

 

This is an active investigation and the public is advised that it is a criminal offense under section 9 of the Prisons Ordinance to knowingly harbour any person who has escaped prison or lawful custody, or to assist such a person with the intent to interfere or prevent that person from being taken into custody. Persons found to be in breach of section 9 commits an offense and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term of two years, or to both.
