Digicel Celebrates 20 Years of Service in Turks and Caicos

Digicel marked its 20th anniversary in the Turks and Caicos Islands with a celebratory event held on Friday, July 17, at the company's Corporate Office along Leeward Highway in Providenciales.

The anniversary celebration brought together customers, staff, and community members to commemorate two decades of providing telecommunications services while highlighting the company's vision for the future.

Speaking at the event, Country Operations Manager Kern Gardiner said the milestone represents 20 years of serving residents, businesses, schools, government agencies, and the wider Turks and Caicos diaspora.

"We are celebrating the monumental moment of serving the TCI nation, businesses, schools, governments, and the diaspora at large," Gardiner said.

The family-friendly celebration featured a variety of activities, including a bouncy castle for children, live music from a band, entertainment by a DJ throughout the day, and an array of food and beverages representing the diverse cultures that make up the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Gardiner said the event was designed to showcase the country's multicultural community, describing it as a celebration of the "melting pot" that is the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Reflecting on Digicel's two-decade journey, Gardiner said the company has spent the past 20 years building a strong foundation through investments in its telecommunications network and workforce.

"From a 20-year perspective, looking back, it has been a foundational building perspective, laying the foundation in terms of network and laying the foundation in terms of people," he said.

Looking to the future, Gardiner said Digicel intends to continue expanding its services to meet the growing needs of the Turks and Caicos Islands as the population grows and new businesses establish themselves in the territory. He also emphasized the company's commitment to supporting the government's digital transformation initiatives by helping move services from paper-based systems to digital platforms.

"We want to expand in terms of what the demand is for TCI at large," Gardiner said. "We want to ensure we are staying ahead of demand."

Gardiner also highlighted Digicel's continued investment in broadband services, noting that the company is shifting toward a more strategic, data-driven approach to network development. By analyzing population density and customer data usage, Digicel is working to optimize the placement of network sites and technologies to improve coverage and service across the islands.

"The approach is now more about effectiveness versus infrastructure," he said.

As Digicel celebrates two decades in the Turks and Caicos Islands, the company says it remains focused on strengthening connectivity and supporting the country's continued digital growth.
