Former Prison Officer Found Dead On Grand Turk

A former prison officer once attached to Her Majesty’s Prison was found dead at a house on Grand Turk on Wednesday.

He has been identified as a national of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

At this time, it is unclear as to the cause of death, and the police are advising against speculations. A police source told NewslineTCI that he was found with a plastic bag over his head.

According to a police report, investigators were called to a location on that island after a report of an unresponsive man. The police, on their visit at the scene, summoned medical personnel, who, shortly after their arrival, pronounced him dead.

The man was reported to have left the prison system about a decade ago, after serving for a long time. The police source stated that of late, he had been going through ‘a great deal’, having gone through a break-up, and an eviction in Providenciales, where he lived up until recently.

The police source said after being evicted, he moved to the Bight, and following being attacked and beaten by elements there, moved to Grand Turk to live with a friend.

The source said the man had, in the recent past, made suicide threats, but police officers talked him out of it.

“Everything came crashing down for him, after the break-up, eviction, the attack, and then the threat of deportation because he had applied for status here for a long time, but no one knows what was going on with the processing of those papers. On top of that, Immigration was threatening to send him home if he did not get the papers soon,” the source said.

The police, in the meantime, are also asking the public to abstain from circulating images of the man but wait for an official report.

in the meantime, social media has bene blowing up with persons posting their own belief of what might have led to the man's death.
