Grand Turk-South Caicos Air Route Grounded as Government Seeks Solution

Residents who rely on air travel between Grand Turk and South Caicos will face disruptions following the temporary discontinuation of commercial air service on the route, effective today, June 18, 2026.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, Investment and Trade announced that commercial flights between the two islands have been suspended while efforts continue to secure a long-term solution for the subsidized route.

The Turks and Caicos Islands Government (TCIG) acknowledged the importance of the service, emphasizing its role in maintaining connectivity between the islands and supporting residents who depend on regular transportation.

According to the Ministry, discussions are ongoing to restore reliable air service as quickly as possible.

“The Ministry is working diligently to assess the available options for resuming reliable air connectivity for this route,” the statement said, adding that negotiations remain actively underway to ensure continuous service between Grand Turk and South Caicos.

Government officials also noted that they recognize the critical role inter-island transportation plays in daily life, particularly in the delivery of essential services. Efforts are being made to finalize alternative arrangements as expeditiously as possible.

The Ministry assured residents and stakeholders that the matter is receiving urgent attention and said further updates will be provided as discussions progress.

Officials clarified that the suspension applies only to the Grand Turk-South Caicos route and does not affect commercial air service between Grand Turk and Salt Cay, which continues to operate without interruption.

TCIG thanked the public for their patience and understanding as it works to restore service between the islands.
