The relay, which begins promptly at 4:30 p.m., carries special significance this year as it coincides with the birthday of the Right Excellent JAGS McCartney, the Turks and Caicos Islands’ National Hero. The event forms part of ongoing national efforts to celebrate his life, leadership, and lasting contribution to the development of the country.

Organisers say the annual relay serves as both a sporting event and a tribute to one of the nation’s most influential leaders.

“This relay is more than a sporting event, it is a powerful tribute to the life and vision of the Right Excellent JAGS McCartney,” a representative of the organising committee stated. “As we mark his birthday, we are reminded of the responsibility we carry to uphold his legacy through unity, service, and national pride.”

The relay will start at the JAGS McCartney Memorial Site before making its way through the island and concluding at the Parade Grounds. Residents and visitors are encouraged to line the route and show their support by participating in the relay, whether through walking, running, or cheering on the participants.

Adding to the evening’s festivities, spectators will be treated to an exhibition cricket match featuring the Titans Cricket Club immediately following the relay at the Parade Grounds.

Organisers expect strong community participation, with government officials, athletes, students, uniformed groups, cultural performers, and families all set to take part in the occasion. The event is designed to be both reflective and celebratory, highlighting the importance of honouring national heroes while fostering unity and national pride.

The TCICGA and TCIAAA, together with the Department of Culture, are encouraging the public to come out early and support what promises to be an inspiring national event.

As the nation marks the birthday of its National Hero, the Rt. Excellent JAGS McCartney Road Relay will provide an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to celebrate his enduring legacy and reaffirm a shared commitment to building a stronger and prouder Turks and Caicos Islands for future generations.
